Why Is The Establishment Of A Hospice Important?

Why Is The Establishment Of A Hospice Important?
People in Our COMMUNITY DESIRE AND DESERVE To Have the Choice of Where They Die

In the next 25 years, the number of Australians who will die each year will double (Grattan Report Dying Well 2014-10). Surveys accessed by the Grattan Institution show 70% of people want to die at home, yet only 13% do. Surveys also show that 54% of people are dying in hospital, 32% in residential care and 13% at home.

If you live alone, or it’s no longer possible to stay at home for whatever reason, a dedicated hospice can provide the next best alternative. People in our community deserve to have access to a dedicated facility that was specifically designed to provide end of life care.
We think that local community members also deserve access to a dedicated facility that will help the patient and the people who love and support them through the most challenging times of their lives.

For these reasons, the Northern Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation feels that it’s imperative to develop a local hospice.
